Wen she dey speak for di opening of di 7th Africa Emerging Markets Forum for Abuja on Wednesday, Okonjo-Iweala talk say countries wey improve dia business climate, maintain macroeconomic stability and attract investment go better position to benefit from di ongoing diversification of global supply chains.
She talk say Nigeria should continue to implement broad-based macroeconomic reforms while dey take careful approach to fiscal policy, debt management and job creation, and she stress say citizens must begin to experience di tangible benefits of di reforms.
"Nigerians must feel di impact of reforms," she talk, and she add say policy measures should eventually improve livelihoods and strengthen di country competitiveness.
Di WTO chief note say di global economy dey move away from excessive dependence on few markets towards more diversified trade relationships as businesses dey search for alternative production locations following disruptions wey COVID-19 pandemic, geopolitical tensions and supply chain shocks cause.
She talk say despite rising protectionist rhetoric, about 72 percent of global trade still dey happen under WTO rules, wey show say di multilateral trading system still dey strong. According to her, countries dey increasingly pursue bilateral and regional trade agreements wey pass beyond tariffs to cover broader economic cooperation.
Okonjo-Iweala urge African countries to seize emerging opportunities for green industries and critical minerals, and she note say di continent get an estimated 30 percent of di world mineral reserves. Instead of continuing di extract-and-export model, she talk say African economies should focus on higher-value processing and deeper integration into global value chains.
