Di Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) boss, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, talk dis one for meeting wey dem hold with di Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt.Hon Ekperikpe Ekpo, for Abuja on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

For di meeting, she give update about di Nigerian Gas Flare Commercialization Programme (NGFCP).

She say, “One year afta dem give person di award, we go check weda di person don make progress.”

“If we no see progress, we go take action wey fit include revoke di award,” she add.

She still talk say even though some operators bin resist am at first, di programme still dey move forward.

She note say dem originally find 43 flare gas sites for award. So far, dem don give 27 sites, and work dey continue.

NUPRC still talk say Nigeria get ova 215 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of proven gas, and total reserve wey fit reach about 600 TCF.

“Dis resources strong well well to help us generate power, develop industry, export, and grow di economy,” she say.

Concerning host communities, she talk say di Petroleum Industry Act bring di Host Community Development Trust framework to solve di problems wey dey affect dia communities and make sure say petroleum resources dey used for betterment.

She say di data wey dem get show say di trusts don help reduce oil theft and spillage, and don make di relationship between operators and communities better.

She still talk say since dem start di initiative, plenty tin don change. She say, “As at now, 173 Host Community Development Trusts don dey registered, 147 don get funding, ova 1,001 projects dey go on, and more than 200 projects don finish for di communities.”

For im own side, Rt.Hon Ekpo talk say make dem take di gas commercialization programme serious and do am fast so dat Nigeria go fit stop routine gas flare by 2030.

He say, “Di main aim na to add value to our gas by turning am into useful products and services. We no suppose dey pollute di environment again, instead make we dey use di resources well well.”
