The Minister of Information and National Reorientation, Mohammed Idris, make the call on Monday for the first edition of Arewa Media Summit wey the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Public Enlightenment organise for Kano.
Idris talk say the media get important role to play for fighting violent extremism by promoting unity, resilience and hope, instead of amplifying the messages of criminal groups.
The minister talk say democracy dey grow well when government remain transparent, citizens dey participate responsibly, and the media dey do their constitutional work with professionalism, fairness and integrity.
E note say while digital revolution don change communication by turning every smartphone into broadcasting platform, e don also make fake news and disinformation spread fast, wey fit spoil national unity and public confidence.
Before that, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Public Enlightenment, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, talk say dem plan the summit to strengthen dialogue between government, citizens and the media through accountability, responsibility and ethical communication.
