Di Nigerian Goment don signal say dem get plan to review di national minimum wage, as dem state say di current N70,000 benchmark no longer match di economic reality wey dey happen now.

Dis move come less than two years afta President Bola Tinubu sign di new minimum wage into law, wey dem raise am from N30,000 and shorten di review cycle from five years to three years.

Chief of Staff to di President, Femi Gbajabiamila, talk dis one on Thursday at di Good Governance Summit 2026 wey Working People United (WoPU) arrange for Abuja.
E say di administration know well well say di cost of living dey continue to rise and say workers deserve wages wey go fit follow di economic conditions.

“Dis administration don deliver new national minimum wage. For July 2024, President Bola Tinubu sign into law minimum wage of N70,000 naira, wey be more than double di N30,000 naira wey workers don suffer for years, and because e know say di cost of living no dey stay same place, di President reduce di strategic review cycle from five years to three years, so dat wages fit follow economic reality closer.

“Di N70,000 wage wey be big achievement for 2024 must dey properly check again based on wetin dey happen for today, and I fit confirm to una say when di time come to begin di process of reviewing di national minimum wage, dis administration go approach dat work not as enemy of labour, but as partner,” e talk.

Gbajabiamila still urge organised labour to continue dialogue with goment as e stress say cooperation instead of confrontation go bring better results for workers and di economy.
