The pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, wey pipo sabi as petrol, don continue to rise across states, with the product dey sell for as much as N1,500 per litre for Kano, Yobe, Sokoto, Borno, Taraba and Zamfara, while prices don also rise sharply for other parts of the country.

This one come as the Nigeria Labour Congress call on the Federal Government to urgently introduce measures to cushion the impact of the rising price of petrol, including the payment of reasonable wage awards to workers and the sale of crude oil to local refineries in naira.

The NLC, for one statement wey its President, Joe Ajaero, sign on Wednesday, talk say petrol now dey sell for about N1,430 per litre for major cities, with prices reportedly higher for places wey no too accessible.

The labour centre warn say the rising cost of petrol go further worsen the economic hardship wey Nigerians dey face, noting say increases in transportation costs usually dey trigger higher prices of food, rent, school fees and other essential goods and services.

Also, fuel marketers join the NLC to call on the Federal Government to intervene for the petrol market, warning say prices fit rise to N2,000 per litre if international crude oil prices continue to increase, while stakeholders urge the government to curb Dangote Petroleum Refinery's growing influence over the market.

The cost of the commodity don continue to rise nationwide, dey sell for as high as N1,500 for many states. For Yobe State, residents report say petrol dey sell for between N1,500 and N1,520 per litre for some filling stations for Damaturu, the state capital.

One Damaturu resident, Hassan Auwalu, talk say he currently dey buy petrol for N1,500 per litre. "I dey currently buy petrol at N1,500 per litre. This one never happen before, and the increase dey make things more difficult for ordinary residents," Auwalu talk.

Similarly, one tricycle rider for the state capital, Musa Ibrahim, talk say he dey buy the commodity for about N1,500 per litre for some Nigerian National Petroleum Company filling stations.

Also speaking, one civil servant, Lawan Garba, talk say some filling stations dey sell petrol at even higher price. "I dey buy petrol at N1,520 per litre for some petrol stations," Garba talk.

For Kano State, petrol dey sell for between N1,460 and N1,500 per litre for most filling stations for the metropolis. The increase don force some vehicle owners to park their vehicles, while commercial tricycle operators, wey pipo sabi as "yan' adaidaita sahu", don also increase their fares by about 50 per cent, depending on the distance.

The operators wey bin dey charge N200 for short distance now dey collect N300, while dem dey charge between N500 and N700 for longer distances.

For Sokoto State, petrol prices rise to between N1,465 and N1,500 per litre for the metropolis. Checks by our correspondent show say the product don rise from the previous price of N1,365 per litre.

For some filling stations, including AA Rano, Shafa and Total, petrol dey sell for N1,465 per litre, while major marketers dey sell am for between N1,470 and N1,500 per litre.
