Di National Population Commission (NPC) don launch one online platform wey dem go use dey register birth and death, under di Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (E-CRVS) programme.

While dem dey give press briefing for Abuja on Wednesday, NPC Chairman, Dr Aminu Yusuf, talk say di platform wey start work on July 1, 2026, dey available now for all 36 states and di Federal Capital Territory.

E talk say dis initiative go make civil registration better, give correct population data wey go help for national planning, and make am easier for people to get legal identity.

According to am, Nigeria dey record about five million births every year, but plenty birth and death still no dey registered.

“Birth registration coverage right now dey about 57 percent for di whole country, while death registration still dey below 20 percent. Dis gaps make plenty Nigerians no get legal identity and limit reliable data wey fit help for effective national planning,” e talk.

Yusuf talk say di commission don set up 4,011 registration centres for all di 774 local government areas and dey plan to increase di number to about 8,000 so dat more people fit get access.

E talk say di digital platform dey give online access 24/7, faster registration, digital certificate wey dem fit issue where applicable, less paperwork, automatic data verification and better database security. Dem also design am to work with Nigeria’s digital identity system.

To make am easy for people for grassroots to access, Yusuf talk say di commission don partner with Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), UNICEF and Bankforte Technologies Limited to scatter birth registration services reach grassroots.

E talk say di commission don also review fees for special services like record modification, certificate reissuance and verification requests to make sure say di platform go fit continue to work.
