Germany don launch one new programme to help Nigeria tackle di estimated $1.5 billion wey di country dey lose every year from gas flaring, by converting di wasted gas into economic value.

Di German Ambassador to Nigeria, Annett Günther, announce dis one for di just-concluded Nigeria Oil and Gas Conference for Abuja. She say di initiative go support Nigeria energy transition, while dem dey reduce emissions and create new economic opportunities.

She say di project, wey di German Foreign Office commission, go look into ways to use di gas wey dem dey flare across Nigeria for domestic consumption, industrial use, and hydrogen production.

Giving di reason why dem dey do dis intervention, Günther say Nigeria still remain one of di world biggest gas-flaring countries.

She talk sey, "So, I think most recently di German Foreign Office commission one programme to translate our energy partnership into practice for one area with new project wey go look closely into flared gas and how dem fit put am into economic value. Just for context, 5.3 billion cubic metres of gas dem flare for 2024 for Nigeria, wey make am di seventh-ranked for di world, and dat one equal economic loss of 1.5 billion US dollars."

"So, dis new programme now na to work together and find out how we go fit use those flared gases more efficiently, bring down emissions, generate additional value, and use di gas to supply households and industry or even maybe to produce hydrogen."
