Nigeria don announce plan to set up one national cybersecurity coordination council to help di country fight di growing cyber threats wey dey increase.

For one statement, di Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy say di council wey dem wan create go serve as multi-stakeholder platform wey go help improve coordination, sharing of information, and collaboration between public and private sector institutions.

Di ministry say dis initiative wey di Communications Minister, Mr Bosun Tijani dey lead, na to improve Nigeria’s ability to respond to those sophisticated cyber incidents wey don disrupt operations for key sectors.

According to di statement, di council go be non-statutory body wey go bring together chief information security officers (CISOs), cybersecurity professionals, technology companies, law enforcement agencies, and relevant government institutions.

“Di proposed council na to be non-statutory, multi-stakeholder coordination platform, wey go bring key actors together and strengthen partnerships wey go support efficient coordination, trusted information sharing, and sustained cooperation among institutions wey dey help improve Nigeria’s cybersecurity,” di ministry tok.

E add say di platform go also provide advisory support to federal government on strategies and frameworks wey need to strengthen national cyber resilience.

E also say dis move follow recent cyber incidents wey don put customers for risk and disrupt operations for major private institutions and public systems, wey show say “cyber threats dey become more coordinated and sophisticated.”

Di ministry further say e go work with stakeholders, including di office of di national security adviser (ONSA), to promote structured partnerships and improve cyber defence frameworks across different sectors.

“Dis approach show say government don realize say modern cyber threats need collective defence models, trusted threat intelligence sharing, and multi-stakeholder coordination,” di statement add.
