President Bola Tinubu don approve di procurement of 35 additional linear accelerators between 2027 and 2029, to make radiotherapy reach more people and strengthen cancer treatment for Nigeria.

Di Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Salako, talk dis one when e receive members of di Global Advisory Council of di National Cancer Control Plan Technical Working Group.

Salako say di investment na part of Federal Government efforts to strengthen cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment under di National Cancer Control Plan 2026–2030.

E also talk say six cancer centres dey develop across di country, with three don finish and di remaining three still dey build.

According to am, di government dey expand cervical cancer screening and dey integrate selected screening services into primary and secondary healthcare facilities to improve early detection.

Salako say Tinubu approval of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination as part of routine immunisation na big step towards preventing cervical cancer, and e add say di government don set up Cervical Cancer Elimination Council.

"Prevention better and cheaper than cure. We dey do everything wey we fit do to expand routine immunisation, broaden screening, and improve early detection," e talk.

Di minister still inaugurate di Blood Cancer Consortium, and e describe am as platform to strengthen collaboration and improve results for di management of blood cancers.
