For one new travel warning wey dem release on Wednesday, di department talk say from April 8, 2026, Americans suppose tink wella before traveling to Nigeria because of crime, terrorism, kidnapping, and civil unrest.

Di warning put Nigeria overall as “Level 3: Tink wella before you travel,” while some states be “Level 4: No Go.”

Di department add Plateau, Jigawa, Kwara, Niger, and Taraba states to di “No Go” list, so now total na 23 states wey dem no gree say make anybody travel go.

Di warning tok: “On April 8, 2026, di Department of State give order make non-emergency US government workers and dia family members leave US Embassy Abuja because of di worsening security situation.”

“Make you tink wella before traveling to Nigeria because of crime, terrorism, unrest, kidnapping, and health care services wey no dey reliable. Some areas get higher risk,” e add.

Di Level 4 states wey US citizens suppose avoid include for North: Borno, Jigawa, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Plateau, Taraba, Yobe, and northern Adamawa states, because of terrorism, crime, and kidnapping.

Di warning also list Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, and Zamfara states, because of unrest, crime, and kidnapping.

“Di security situation for dese states no dey stable and uncertain because of civil unrest. Plenty fighting between communities and armed crime, including kidnapping and roadside banditry.

“Security operations to stop dese tins fit happen anytime without warning,” di warning tok.

For South and Southeast Nigeria, di department advise citizens to avoid Abia, Anambra, Bayelsa, Delta, Enugu, Imo, and Rivers states (except Port Harcourt) because of crime, kidnapping, and unrest.
