Gabon's coup
Mutinous soldiers in Gabon have appointed the head of the Republican Guard as the country's new head of state following Wednesday's coups.
The soldiers went on Gabon’s state television and said that Gen. Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema was president of the Committee for the Transition and Restauration of Institutions. Oligui is the leader of the Republican Guard, an elite military unit. The soldiers ousted President Ali Bongo just after the country's election results were announced.

Bongo cries out
Gabon's deposed leader Ali Bongo has cried out for help from friends worldwide after the military detained him in his residence. He was overthrown by the Presidential Guard on Wednesday just after he was declared winner of the country's controversial elections. The coup leaders have appointed a General to lead the country.

The impact of the recent coup in Gabon is being felt across the region. Soldiers from the Republican Guard toppled President Ali Bongo on wednesday and appointed General Brice Nguema as the new leader of the country. The closure of Gabon's borders by the coup leaders has paralysed activities particularly between the country and neighbouring Cameroon.
