Nigeria don ban importation of cement, chicken food, medicine, and farm products from any country wey no be part of ECOWAS.

According to one circular from federal ministry of finance wey Wale Edun, di minister of finance, sign on April 1, 2026, dese products be part of 17 items wey dey di new import ban list.

Di circular tok say, “Import Prohibition list (Trade), wey only apply to some goods wey come from countries wey no be ECOWAS member. E get 17 items.”

Dis new import ban list be part of di 2026 fiscal policy measures and tariff changes.

Di circular still tok say, “We go give 90 days grace period, starting from di day dis circular go start work, wey be April 1, 2026, to all importers wey don open Form ‘M’ and don sign trade agreement wey no fit change before dis circular start, so dat dem fit process and clear dia goods with di old duty rates.

“But any new import transaction wey start from April 1, 2026, go follow di new import duty rules.

“Dese Fiscal Policy Measures wey don replace di 2023 Fiscal Policy Measures go dey published for di Official Federal Government Gazette.”

Below be di list of items for di new import ban list:

(1). Live or dead birds, including frozen chicken
(2). Pork/beef, including tongue, liver, and shoulder of cow
(3). Bird egg, except hatching egg of grand parent stock for breeding and research
(4). Refined vegetable oil, except refined linseed, castor oil, olive oil, and hydrogenated vegetable fat, plus crude vegetable oil
(5). Cane or beet sugar and pure chemical sugar for solid form wey get flavor or colour
(6). Cocoa butter, powder and cake, including cocoa fat and oil, and natural cocoa butter
(7). Tomato, whole or chopped, tomato paste or concentrate
(8). Water, including mineral water and fizzy water, wey get added sugar or sweetener or flavor, plus snow and other soft drinks
(9). Bagged cement
(10). Medicine for different types
(11). Waste medicine
(12). Mineral or chemical fertilizer wey get nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (NPK)
(13). Soap and detergent
(14). Corrugated paper and paper board, carton, box and case wey dem make from corrugated paper and paper board
(15). Hollow glass bottle wey fit hold more than 150 ml (0.15 litre), like carboy, bottle and flask
(16). Flat-rolled iron or non-alloy steel, of width 600mm or more, wey dem clad, plate or coat – corrugated
(17). Ball point pen and parts, including refill (except di tip) for ball point pen, wey get di ball point and ink container

Also, di federal government don add 2 percent green tax or excise duty for motor vehicle wey engine size be 2009 cc – 3999 cc and 4000 cc and above.
