Zambia's president retains finance minister after notable economic gains
Situmbeko Musokotwane has served as Zambia's finance minister since 2021.

Zambia's President Hakainde Hichilema has reappointed Situmbeko Musokotwane as finance minister following last month's election, a swearing-in ceremony for the new cabinet on the Southern African country's public broadcaster showed on Monday.

Musokotwane has served as finance minister of the copper-rich country since 2021.

During Hichilema's first term, he oversaw protracted debt restructuring negotiations after Zambia became the first African country to default during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Zambia is aiming to agree a new International Monetary Fund programme by the end of the year.
