Nigeria has filed charges against six individuals, including a retired army general and a former cabinet minister, in connection with claims of a military coup plot against President Bola Tinubu.
Sixteen officers were arrested over "issues of indiscipline" in the wake of reports of a coup plot that emerged in October 2025.
President Tinubu subsequently sacked his military high command and appointed new heads of the army, air force and navy.
Local Nigerian outlets reported on Tuesday that the attorney general's office had filled 13 charges against six individuals over the alleged coup plot.
The charges include treason, terrorism, failure to informs security agencies about the coup plot and money laundering linked to terrorism financing, the reports say.
Listed among the defendants are former minister of state for petroleum resources Timipre Silva, retired major-general Mohammed Ibrahim Gana, retired navy captain Erasmus Ochegobia Victor and Ahmed Ibrahim, a police inspector.
They are due to be arraigned on Wednesday before the Federal High Court in the capital, Abuja, the reports said.
The West African country has seen several military takeovers in its history and spent much of the 20th century under military rule since its independence from Britain in 1960.
