Uganda has placed two army generals in custody as part of a purge on alleged corruption within the armed force, state-owned New Vision news site reports
.Major General Don William Nabasa and Brigadier General Johnson Namanya Abaho were arrested on Thursday night following orders from military chief General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of Uganda's president, reports said.
The pair is being detained at a military facility. They are yet to make a public response to their arrest.
The military chief has also appointed a new deputy chief of military intelligence, according to the reports.
Maj Gen Nabasa was the joint staff for policy and strategy, while Brig Namanya was recently recalled from his role as commissioner of citizenship and passport management, the state-owned outlet reports.
Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni promoted his son to head the Uganda People Defence Forces (UPDF) in March 2024, but has denied speculation of grooming him as his successor.
Museveni has been in power for four decades and is due to be sworn in May for a seventh term after winning elections in January 2026.
