The Namibian military was hit by a cyberattack late on Friday when alleged military-related files appeared online.
Files apparently originating from systems connected to the Namibian Defence Force were circulating online following a ransomware claim against the military.
"The leaked directory reportedly includes folders labelled commander, defence, military, financials, and personal as well as other documents and files,” public broadcaster the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation reported.
It said the circumstances of the breach remained under investigation amid suggestions of a possible compromise involving an officer who may have clicked on a malicious link.
'No organisation is immune to cyber threats'
The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia also confirmed that the Defence and Veterans Affairs Ministry was targeted in a cyberattack.
"No organisation is immune to cyber threats. Institutions are urged to strengthen defences and report incidents promptly,” Emilia Nghikembua, CEO of the communications authority, told local daily the Namibian Sun.
