South African police have offered a reward for information leading to the arrest of suspects involved in three separate shootings that left 11 people dead across the Cape Town metropolitan area.
Western Cape Provincial Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Sizakhele Dyantyi announced a reward of 100,000 rand (about $6,185) for information that helps identify and apprehend those responsible.
According to police, three men aged 25, 31 and 35 were killed in a shooting in the Lingelethu West area of Khayelitsha township.
In a second attack on Winnie Mandela Street in the KwaLanga area of Langa township, four men and one woman were shot dead.
A third shooting in the Barcelona informal settlement in Gugulethu claimed the lives of two men and one woman, while two other people were injured.
Investigations launched
The South African Police Service (SAPS) said investigations had been launched into all three incidents. Additional police units have been deployed to the affected communities and other areas identified as high-risk.
Authorities said the motive for the attacks remains unclear and appealed to the public to provide any information that could assist investigators.
Dyantyi said gang-related violence and the proliferation of illegal firearms continue to pose significant security challenges in the Western Cape province.
In response to rising gang-related violence in the Western Cape, President Ramaphosa, in March, authorised the deployment of 2,200 national defense force (SANDF) members to support police in high-risk areas.
