Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has discussed the newly reached agreement between the United States and Iran with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, as regional powers reacted to a deal aimed at ending months of tensions.

During the phone call on Monday, according to Turkish Foreign Ministry sources, Araghchi thanked Türkiye for its contributions to the negotiation process that helped facilitate talks between Tehran and Washington.

Fidan welcomed the agreement and expressed hope that follow-up negotiations would also produce positive results, underscoring the importance of preserving the momentum generated by the breakthrough.

Fidan warns against attempts to undermine deal

Fidan stressed the need to remain alert against provocations that could jeopardise the agreement.

He said Türkiye would continue working to strengthen peace, stability and prosperity across the region, reaffirming Ankara’s commitment to diplomatic engagement.

The conversation came hours after Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the United States and Iran had reached a peace agreement and would formally sign the deal in Switzerland on Friday.

Both Washington and Tehran later confirmed the announcement.

Strait of Hormuz reopening planned

US President Donald Trump said the agreement had been finalised and announced plans to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and lift a US naval blockade, moves that could ease tensions in one of the world's most strategically important waterways.

The accord marks a significant diplomatic development after months of regional instability and raises hopes for a broader de-escalation across the Middle East.
