Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan said on Thursday that he wrote to US President Donald Trump to reaffirm commitment to Washington’s efforts to achieve peace in the war-torn country.
“I wrote to President Donald Trump reaffirming Sudan’s commitment to U.S. peace efforts,” Burhan wrote on X, a US social media platform.
“The Government of Sudan is ready to work in good faith with all parties for a just, lasting peace that safeguards our sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, & our people’s dignity,” he added.
The remarks came days after US senior advisor Massad Boulos condemned an October 9 drone strike that killed at least 12 civilians in An Nuhud, West Kordofan.
The Joint Force of armed groups allied with the Sudanese army announced on October 5 that its forces and the army had taken control of Bir Saliba in West Darfur after fighting the RSF.
Sudan has been engulfed in war between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces since April 2023, leaving tens of thousands dead and displacing millions of others.
